The death toll in Kashmir has risen to 32, while the number of people injured is 1365 including 465 forces personnel.
There is no let up in violence and loss of lives after killing of top Hizbul Muhajideen commander Burhan Muzaffar Wani as seven more injured succumbed to their injuries, taking the death toll to 32 but protests on fourth day continued across Kashmir Valley.
A policeman identified as Afroz Ahmad was also killed when according to officials he was pushed into River Jhelum along with a police vehicle at Sangam, Bijbehara yesterday.
According to the figures fetched from various hospitals Over 750 civilians got injured in 3 days among which more than 200 got critically injured.Besides police sources said that more than 450 police and paramilitary forces got injured while tackling with protesters in the valley. Overall, over 1365 have been injured since Friday evening. No shortage of medicines in hospital has been witnessed so far.
Seven injured persons succumbed to their injuries today. The slain have been identified as Rashid Kumar of DH Pora, Muneer Pandit of Mohanpora Shopian, Shahid Gulzar of Zainapora Shopian, Feroz mir of Begummilo Kulgam, Mushtaq Dar of Ujroo, Dooru, Anantnag, Shahid Hamid margay of Larnoo Kokernag and Khursheed Mir of Harwat Kulgam.
According to sources, there were protests and clashes across Kashmir on the fourth consecutive day with no let up in injuries as forces targeted protesters with bullets, shells and pellets. Official sources said that a total of 44 persons were injured in forces’ action. Local residents said one as Aamir Latoo of Zirpora Bijbehera was shot at by CRPF at Zirpora Shopian and he is critical. However police said: “At Zirpora Bijbehara militants fired upon police and CRPF personnel deployed for law & order duties which resulted in injuries to three persons who have been hospitalized.”
Official sources said that the protesters continued their attacks on police and other installations today. The protesters set ablaze abandoned Police Post at Fruit Mandi Sopore, Police Post Lassipora, Police Post Achan and SOG camp at Litter Pulwama while Langate police post, Kralpora police post and police station Vilgam were attacked with stones.
According to police, clashes between youths and forces occurred at Warpora, Langate, Kralgund, Hajin, Kaloosa, Prichoo, Sheeri, Khanpora, Preng, Koil, Fruitmandi Sopore, Popchan, Hyderpora, Baghat Barzulla, Tengpora, Rambagh, Cement Bridge Baramulla, Tahab, Yaripora, Sangam, Bijbehara, Trehgam, Kralpora, Villgam, Shopian, Imamsahib and Gagran. Also, there were protests at Salamabad Uri near Line of Control. Sources said the clashes and protests also erupted at multiple places in curfew-bound south Kashmir districts of Shopian, Pulwama and Anantnag. Out of 44 injured, 8 protesters sustained injuries at Vilgam and one of them is critical.
Police spokesman in a statement issued here said: “A number of police establishments were also attacked by hooligans. The police and para military personnel deployed exhibited maximum restraint while dealing with the situation.”
